SAN FRANCISCO — An individual accused of illegally selling prescription drugs to physicians and researchers for the first time has been sentenced to two years in federal prison.
Kathryn B. Johnson, 35, of San Francisco, was sentenced by U. S. District Judge Robert H. Young to serve a total of 60 months and a maximum sentence of three years in federal prison.
In court documents, Johnson has agreed to pay $1.25 million to be restitution to San Francisco-based pharmaceutical company Pfizer Inc. in the amount of $10 million.
She is also ordered to pay $2 million to the U. Department of Justice, which is responsible for distributing restitution to Pfizer and other pharmaceutical companies.

The U. Food and Drug Administration approved Viagra and Cialis as the first prescription-only prescription drugs for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, Johnson said in the e-mail interview.
The company was also ordered to pay $1 million to the government and $1 million to the state Department of Health and Human Services, which is responsible for distributing the restitution.
Johnson is facing three felony charges for illegally selling prescriptions to doctors and researchers in San Francisco.
Johnson has been charged with conspiracy, mail fraud and money laundering.
Johnson and her attorney, James S. Fulop, are represented by U. Attorney Paul Geller in San Francisco.
